Mares have 40 adult teeth while the males have 42. Males have 2 canine teeth which are not found in a mare (there are however exceptions to this rule).

Adult male horses have 42 permanent teeth, they have 2 canine teeth that the female horse doesn't have.

Adult mares have 40 teeth, and adult stallions have 42, 2 of which are canines or "wolf" teeth that mares do not have.
