The great cutting horse and leading cutting horse sire Smart Little Lena was humanely euthanized this morning at 11am after suffering a stroke. I haven't found an article on the passing yet, but this little horse had a big imprint on my life and the life of many who knew him. What a wonderful cutting horse and great sire. I'll post an article when I find one, until then here is a recap of the NCHA Triple Crown winner.

- One of only three horses to win the NCHA Triple Crown (Futurity, Super Stakes, Derby), also the first horse to win this honor
- Life time earnings $743,275 (in only 8 shows)
- 550 money earning offspring
- Cutting horse offspring earnings: $26,565,935
- Reining horse offspring earnings: $484,412

Sire of:
17 World Champions
11 Reserve World Champions
110 Register of Merit (ROM)

Smart Little Lena was sired by Doc O'Lena (Doc Bar x Poco Lena), and was out of Smart Peppy (Peppy San x Royal Smart).

Thanks Justice, some horses just seem to shape your life and leave a hoof print on your soul. He had a great (and long) life, passing at age 31. It will be interesting to see if Jill Freeman, wife of late Bill Freeman (trainer and rider of Smart Little Lena) will now let Smart Little Lena's clones out into the show world or continue to keep them in the breeding shed.
R.I.P. Smart Little Lena. Well known in Australia.. Condolences to the family.
