I am an appy lover. I currently have a mare. I also have a paint, a welsh pony, and a mini pinto stud. I am absolutely obssessed...I have spot fever!!! lol

Hi I raised appaloosa coloured ponies for twenty years. I have had appaloosa horses too. Right now I have one appaloosa mare. I have just gotten into minis and hope to get appaloosa coloured minis.

We are finished with foaling for 2010, a great crop this year! Everyone is healthy and strong and growing very fast. Here is a photo of some of the youngsters.

Check out Appy, Duster in video "Trust" and the "Dance". Duster is quarter Arab going on five. Duster is my first horse, two greens and no black and blue.

Bubba is a perfect buckskin right down to the dorsal stripe if you fill in between the spots. He is very baroque looking and an awesome mover. Many people think he is a knapstrupper, but he is all App and proud of it! His previous owner was going to use him as a roping horse but didn't like his trot, so I offered to take him off his hands and "deal with it."

I haven't shown my Appy mare for a few years now as we have been concentrating on distance riding (Endurance and Competititve Trail). When we did show we showed on the ApHC circuit in Ontario.

Bask N Coins qualified for Worlds in Mare Halter, Sport Horse in Hand Mares, Most Colourful and Hunter Hack. We even ranked International Top Ten in Sport Horse in Hand Mares.

As a distance horse she has attended 3 of the 4 ApHC National Championship Endurance Rides (50 miles) with the following results: 2006 (Palmyra WI) - 4th; 2007 (Big South Fork TN) - 3rd, 2009 - (Cuyahoga OH) - 2nd (Reserve Champion). At all 3 she was Reserve Champion Best Conditioned.

In the Arabian world she has also been: 2005 AHA National Champion Competitive Trail (top partbred and top overall); 2004 AHA Top Ten CTR, 2008 AHA Top Ten 50-mile Endurance. Never mind a 4 year show career in the Arabian world as well.

My late appy/tb had the most fantastic coloring. The official color was blue roan with blanket- but he truly was every color.

I am coming in late for this discussion but would like to add to it. The ApHCC (Appaloosa Horse Club of Canada) accepts QH and Thoroughbred outcrosses whereas the ApHC (Appaloosa Horse Club) accepts QH, Thoroughbred and Arabian outcrosses into the regular registries. However, the ApHCC will consider show permits to horses that display the visible Appaloosa characterisitics. The ApHC also has a hardship registry that accepts horses based on their colour, but they must be either gelded or spayed.

I show/compete with my Appaloosas in various venues in Alberta, mostly Open competitions. Horses from my breeding program a doing all sorts of things from trail horses to barrel racing to ranch etc. They truly are a versatile breed.

Hi Diana

I appreciate your input on my question regarding registration of my Appy/Morgan x. I never looked into Half-Morgan registry, probably because he has every single trait in the book for an appy and Morgans are solid in colour; but I'll look into it, Thanks.

Do you show your Appy? if so where?

Hi Lisa

My Appy being a Half-Arabian is also ineligible for ApHCC registration, however I'm lucky that she can and is registered ApHC. Disappointing for me that I cannot show at Canadian shows when I am a Canadian, but luckily ApHC has shows here in Ontario as well.

Have you registered your guy with the Half-Morgan registry? This might give you another avenue to compete and reap rewards.

Regarding ApHCC - if you are wanting to compete at ApHCC shows then I would get the competition permit and put the show record on him. If and when you sell him then the new owners have something to back up the reason why they would like to renew the competition permit with ApHCC. Without a strong competition record then it is more lilely they will turn down the permit should ApHCC change their stance on "non-traditional" crosses.
