Sue; I agree! Monty is so willing to learn new things and I trust him on the roads far more than I ever did my 17 year old Appy. I was quite fortunate when I adopted Monty last year from Greener Pastures as I knew what type of horse I was looking f…

Hello Cathy, and welcome. I have a 4 year old Standardbred whom I am in the process of re-training to be a riding horse. He's coming along very well too. I've been riding all my life and dispite aches and pains I intend to keep on riding in the year…

Yes, I know. It is hard to make the choice sometimes as to what I want to do that day. And of course, work and an elderly parent are taking up a lot of my time too. I have just booked myself in for an artist/horseperson's show for the Spring and wil…

Wow Karen! What beautiful work you do, especially the waterscapes! You and I share the same two passions, art and animals. I do alot of portrait work right now and keep saying I want to get back into scenic and illustration type work, but I'm on my…

Hey, come on! Where are all those Standie owners out there? I know winter is kind of the slow time of year but I'm still getting some training in when I can. I want to get Monty into the Standie schooling shows this Spring and Summer so I've been tr…

Retire? What's that? I've got at least another 13 years before I can even consider it and even then I might not be able to afford to. I wish I could forget about trying to make a living, there are so many other things I could be spending my time on.…

Chin up Cindy. I know how you feel, but we can only do what we can do. I don't have an indoor either, and here on the west coast we are knee deep in mud. I'm hoping to get my young Standie ready for the schooling shows this Spring, but between the w…

Profile Information

About Me:
Well, I live in Surrey, BC. My life has always revolved around horses and dogs and though I don't have my own horse just now I am still quite active in the equestrian sport.
I am just starting up a free-lance business as a pet portrait artist and am busy trying to find ways to get my work out there to the people who would be interested in it. In the meantime I am keeping quite busy with commissions though they are mostly of dogs. I would really like to get some horse people interested as horses are what I love to draw the most.
I generally make my living as a Driver, either shuttle vans, or the 3-5 ton trucks, but things are rather slow right now. I am working as a tour bus driver at the moment but I'm finding that to be very stressfull and may not continue with it.
I am divorced, but now happily dating a lovely gentleman after quite a long dry spell. That was okay though, because sometimes it's best to let things settle for awhile after going through a bad divorce. Now my life is going pretty good.
Other than that, I don't really know what else to add. I guess that is me in a nutshell.

Do you have any pets?
I now have a dog, Karma. And a cat Milton. I recently lost my Appy gelding Kiefer to a badly fracture foreleg. I think it will be a while before I get another horse.

Things are going along quite well with Monty. We had our first lesson last week and he took to the trotting over poles like a fish to water and since then he has been more consistant with his trotting rather than pacing even out on the trails.
The ring is finally drying up, and I have found a round pen within riding distance of our barn to things are really shaping up to be a productive summer.
Happy (and safe0 riding everyone!

Been awhile

It's been some time since I've been on here, too busy I guess. Things have been going well with Monty though we have hit a couple of snags in his training. Still that is to be expected with a youngster and overall, my trainer is quite happy with his progress, and so am I.
I went to check out the Standardbred Schooling Show at the Langely Riders arena a couple of weeks ago and really quite enjoyed it. I had thought to take Monty to the one coming up just for the fun of it, but I may reconsider an… Continue

More about Monty

Well finally I have been getting some steady riding in with my new gelding. The ring isn't dry enough to ride in yet so most of our sessions have been out on the roads and trails, but still, a lot is being accomplished.
I am very pleased with the way he is coming along. He is so sensiable and easy going even though he is just coming up four. We do most of our road work at a walk or slow pace and he is constantly looking around at eveything and taking it all in, but rarely spooking or acting sill… Continue

He's home!

Wow this is scary! Push came to shove when it came to adopting my Standardbred so I had to take the plunge or let him go. So here I am with a new horse and no job! Am I crazy?
Anyway, he's home and his re-training is going to start once he's had some time to settle in. I was very impressed by how calmly he handled coming to a new barn and I think that bodes well for how he is going to handle all the other changes in his life that are coming his way.
I'm really looking forward to getting started… Continue

On-going

Frustrations mount.

The open house at Greener Pastures went very well, with quite a large turn out but no real on the spot buyers for that day. For me, salfishly, it was a good thing as no one put their dibes in on the gelding I am hoping to adopt as soon as I can find a job.
It is becoming very frustration. I have been over a year now without a permanent job and still no takers on my resume. I am so ready to bring home my new horse and start with his re-education and to be delayed by a little… Continue

Standardbreds

Well, it's not a done deal yet, but it's really looking like I will be adopting a Standardbred very soon. I was all set to do it last month and then got laid off my job so that sort of put a hold on the proceedings. Still, I have ridden this little fellow a couple of times now and am really pleased with him so I expect I will find a way. I feel confident that I will be back working again soon and can finally get this gelding home and start getting to know him.
Greener Pastures in Abbotsford real… Continue
