"HI Barney, I recently met a fella that calls himself a horse pediatrist.. What would the difference be between that and a ferrier? Of course the pediatrist says the ferrier isn't doing the horses feet right."

thanks for the videos.. they are nicely done Barney! I hope you will comment sometime about the problems of 'over at the knees' , or 'benched knees' and how to trim to compensate for arthritis that has set in as a result to keep the horse comfortable.
I also have a youngster who overeaches and is catching his outside front heel bulb on both feet. I am using bell boots when working him, but sometimes he does this on his own when playing too hard. Is there any trimming advice?

...Hi Barney....I noticed quite a few of your "FANS" are asking about filing between trims. Now the ground is getting drier and harder even freshly trimmed feet take a beating causing flares and slight cracks to be much worse. I have just received and tried the new RidersRasp that is now on the market. It is nicely designed for kids and women's size hands and you can file the hooves quite nicely without slicing off your own skin !!!
I think using it 2 or 3 times a week with your picking routine would work well without taking off too much. It's worth looking into anyway....it's quite pricey...but I think I will be happy I bought it.

Well, thanks for the comments; yes, he's sound on that hoof....now, it's the right rear that has an abscess that I thought was gone that re-appeared! So a few more weeks; no riding/showing to speak of this summer....sigh --- I'm 55 and hope next summer I can ride and show....thanks again --- Margaret

Thanks much for replying and telling me what you think. about the Riders Rasp. I haven't ordered it yet, I've just been using old regular rasps the ferrier has left with us. They are very awkward for a newbee. But it has helped immensely to get the chips off right away so they don't usually worsen., I was amazed how little use you guys get out of your hoof rasps... that adds up to a bunch of change! I am sure anyone would notice a difference in how tired they were at the end of the day whether useing a sharp or a dull rasp. Do you do barefoot trims and shoes? My ferrier also recommend Tuff Stuff. I'm also hearing excellent reviews on Kerotin/Kerotex. I haven'd notices the Fiskes product. I'll watch for it. Does it apply the same as Mane and Tail Hoof Cream? I got that on sale figuring it couldn't hurt and it softens my nails also.
Thanks again for your time.
Enjoy Barnmice~~great groups of people.
