"Well, we have an Ontario association, but like most not-for-profit associations, we are near broke most of the time. Paying $1130 plus GST for a booth is fine if you are selling and making money, just not practical for a not-for-profit…"

Brenda Pantling commented on Melissa Monardo's group Ontario Equestrian Federation
"Is the OEF taking part in the Outdoor Equine Expo? For our breed association it is MUCH too expensive. $800 for a booth, $200 for a stall, $130 for electric hookup and that doesn't even include any time in a ring for demos. For what amounts to…"

"Trail riding....and I don't just mean hacking in an open field here anthough even that is a start....is very good for the rider too. Mental relaxation, learning to trust the horse (it goes both ways), bending to avoid branches helps develop…"

"I never wore a helmet. I broke horses, rode the trails, I rode western and western riders don't wear helmets, right? Then I had a daughter. Of course I always made her wear a helmet. Until the day she asked why she had to wear one and I…"

"Whether you show at top level shows or never take your horse off the farm, owning horses is all about what makes YOU happy. The recreational rider is just as legitamit a horse person as the top level competitor and vice versa. The beauty of horses,…"

"Deep is good, but if it hurts or is sore afterwards, it kind of defeats the purpose. There is absolutely no need for it to make you feel worse. The massage therapist I have now is wonderful. She gets deep, releases all the knots, and all I feel…"

Brenda Pantling replied to Melissa Monardo's discussion Are you a RIDE ONtario participant?? in the group Ontario Equestrian Federation
"Yes I take part. However, since it only includes actual riding and driving, and I spend half my life on the end of a lunge line working with youngsters, my hours rack up slowly. Still, it is a fun way for recreational riders to be involved."

I agree, Brenda. My mare can certainly keep up with those huge warmbloods on a gallop across the fields in the fall. Now I have to admit she started out "saving her energy", but since I ride so often with WBs, she has adopted their pace and makes me proud. Best breed on the planet, IMHO.
