As far as my horses are concerned, there are 2 types of oats: The fresh smelling, clean oats that they love, and the damp, moldy, nasty smelling oats they'd rather leave for the chickens.

Cindy,
Sled Dods!!! ... Ohhhh How COOL IS That!!!
I have to tell you ... about 100 years ago (way back when I was 15 or so ( so we don't want to talk in "exact years" ..lol) .. I was in Central City, Colorado ...there was a BIG sled dog race(s) ... to make a long story short ... after meeting a few folk ...and pitching in to help hold, start dogs .. experiencing, and being a part of that wonderful CamaraderieI of competitors who stand at the finishing line ... sincerely "cheering, urging, and Calling to the dogs to "Come On" ...I was Biten with the bug to have my own Sled Dog Team!! ... I think it is the C or D class(???) where you only have to have 3 dogs for your team?? ...THAT'S where I Saw Myself Getting Started!! ... and god knows Where I came up with my first 4 malamute type dogs ... but I did .. (much to the dismay and anger of my Mom ...lol ... there was no dad in the picture ) ... but I Had My Team and I Was Soooooo Proud!!! ...and we bagan to seriously train ... (which consisted of me and 4 giant dogs on leashes .. just running all around together .. playing mostly) .. I think I went to 2 sled dog club meetings ( LOVED being the "New Kid" ... I never met kinder, more Encouraging folk!! ) ... but sadly, reality began to set in.
4 BIG dogs Eat A Lot!! ( my poor, financially struggling mother ...lol ) ... and they Poop A Whole LOT ... and they are hairy and unruly in the house, and if you put them outside in the makeshift chicken yard turned kennel ... They Bark .. and neighbors complain because they bark ... and then get each other to barking ...A LOT!! ... and school goes Out The Window ... because it's a Whole Lot More Fun to Run and Play with Your 4 Big Dogs then do homework (or even GO to school ) ... And the Cost of Equipment (where in gods name did I think I was going to come up with the money it takes to buy a sled??? ..lol..) ... and I couldn't Believe My mother wasn't willing to to haul me and my 4 Big hairy drooly happy jumping slobbering dogs All around in the back seat of her car!! .... so ... my entire Sled dog racing career lasted about 4 months!! .. My dogs were re-homed with 4 different school friends .. lol .. I remember being Absolutely broken hearted, and it was Years before I forgave my poor mom. ... lol .. kids can be Soooo hard on parents.
But all of that is just to say ... I still ...to This Day ... have a love and Deep Respect for You sled dog folk ..and your Wonderful dogs ... and the amazing Sport in general!!
.......thinking about You running tours... WOW!!
But are you saying "used to" as in you "Don't" any more??
And did you ever do any "Racing" ???
Well ... you must surely have pictures ... I hope You'll post some.
You don't by chance have a website or anything do you??
...lol ... I genuinely Love those sled dogs and their people!!
Sooooooo (((((((((hugs))))))))) ... and Again ...B I G Welcome to Barnmice!!
I'm So Glad You're Here!!
