Ideas on Suspensory damage...

I really like your idea of having somebody lead him in his first couple of rides. He has been getting sedated for his daily "walks". I am definately in no hurry- I have high hopes for this guy! What…

Ideas on Suspensory damage...

I definately agree with that advice! My vet told me that because the injuries weren't that bad- that we caught them early, that he should comeback 100% and sooner than most horses would. So, fingers…

How Can I break boredom for my "Stall Resting" horse?

He is definately restless. And is handwalked and brushed daily while under the influence of Ace. Howeever, he is a very intelligent horse who, mentally, I think needs to be occupied during the day. I…

Leading them around under saddle was huge for a couple of the horses I worked with, also with the short turn outs, sedation was a must. I am a huge believer in game readies. WORTH EVERY PENNY. What they do is combine ice and pressure in away that i…

I've been a groom/vet assistant for quite a few horses with suspensory damage. I second what Kathy said, GIVE HIM ENOUGH TIME TO HEAL. I've seen several horses' careers ended when they could have done a lot better if just given the time they needed.…

My mare had a suspensory injury before I bought her which was why her previous owner was parting with her as she competed in high school dressage. She had all the best treatment at Liphook centre. I don't compete at such heights and have given her p…

I think the best thing you can do is make sure he is on a tranquilizer that keeps him quiet if he shows any restlessness of a type that might jeapardize his recovery, such as suddenly jumping, spooking or rearing while led or in his stall, pacing ar…

I agree sound advice! It's sometimes harder for us than it is for them best not to get anxious I've been there and learned my lesson, fussed too much and ended up wishing I'd left well alone.

Follow the veterinarian's orders. That's my idea! Shock wave is a great treatment and very successful in many cases.

I think you're going down the wrong path. He sounds like the best patient in the world, and that ability to just adjust to a new routine and nap all day is the best thing that could possibly happen to him! Let him rest and be quiet. If he's on stall…

Yes, he is on a schedule of hand walking. But, I'm looking for a toy or game he can play while stuck in his stall for 23 hours a day... haha

Is he allowed to be out for hand-walking?
November 22, 2009
As of right now, he had 30 days of stall rest and 15 minutes daily of "hand grazing" and leisurley walking; and just started on a light schedule of actual hand walking 2 weeks ago- moving up a minute a day. He will Be re-evaluated at 90 days with ul…

Well, because of his injury- he won't be allowed out side for another 2 weeks (which I'm sure he's going to love!).

I nicked my stall rest man a traffic pylon and painted the top w molasses. He loved hanging his head out of the stall to chew on it. There's also the usual stuff, jolly ball, milk jug w grain and a small hole, hand walking (if the vet ok's it) a few…
