Saddle Up, Doc!

There’s only one thing worse than most doctors’ handwriting. And that would be their bedside manner. After 17 years with a critically, chronically ill daughter, I have learned that some of the world’s most astonishingly bad communicators wear white coats and stethoscopes.I have personally experienced doctors and surgeons saying the most horrifying things without even bothering to…See More

Embracing Groundlessness

In a recent email conversation with Lori Skoog and thinking of Gin at High Mountain Muse, and Tamara at The Barb Wire, I was reminded of the fundamental Buddhist concept of groundlessness. We humans work hard to create an illusion…See More

Some Folks Call Sculpture HorseSh*t, But This is the Real Thing

Horseworld is the U.K.’s leading equine rescue charity, rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting out horses, ponies, and donkeys.Visitors to the Horseworld Rescue Center in Bristol, England got an eye- (and nose-) full of a new sculpture in the gardens yesterday. Sculptor Sophie Howard is completing a life-size model of a horse out of, you guessed it, manure. The statue is part of a green theme exhibition planned for the center in the second half of…See More

The Mindful Horse

There was a Clinton Anderson Clinic in town last week. And I watched my Pat Parelli videos again last week, too.And as readers know, I’m a student and employee of Linda Tellington-Jones.I’ve been thinking about those round pen sessions between new horse and trainer. Neither has seen the other before, and it’s a neck-and-neck race for dominance and…See More

The Fine Art of Mediation and Horse Training: Common Ground?

A couple of days ago I was watching Parelli Horsemanship on RFD TV. Half the program was devoted to “asking permission to approach the horse.”It’s about time! This segment was a thrill for me. Watching Linda Parelli demonstrate how to “go and get your horse” in a polite way was a pleasure. It was the first time I’ve seen anyone in the big-time, TV horse world talk about respect for the horse’s personal space. Extrapolating on the idea of the approach, one can see that the Parellis are not just…See More

Hello Kimberly I practised TTEAM in the 80's and have used it on people, pets and again, on my LLCIP Pony and other equines. Great not just for relaxing but opening their minds and bodies to new experiences. I have taken up driving and find it very beneficial to overcome the restraints harness and vehicles can impose on equines.

It's warm then cold, warm then cold - and last week we had a pile of snow!
Yesterday was actually quite nice though, so I'm hoping it's the real start of spring!

Kimberly,
Where did you live in Afton? I lived on Calf Mt. just the other side for 30 years. My sister lives on Jarmen Gap road just outside of Crozet.
