"I know I have been out of the loop for just over 10 years but at what point did good horsemanship lose out to "showy" manoeuvres !?! What a terrifying concept that a top dressage horse has to ridden so close to the edge of panic to win…"
"Ah! Your theory makes perfect sense, KT. I suppose the same would be true of the saddle horn on a western saddle (to a lesser extent though 'cause you're not so locked in). But of course, you hope/assume no horse would ever flip over…"
"I believe the reason for not riding a "rearer" in a side saddle is that if the horse goes over backwards you cannot be thrown or get yourself clear. This can cause death due to the damage caused by the pommel to the rider. However in my…"
"This video is fabulous for obvious reasons . . . but most interesting to me is the lay-back trick when the horse rears. I have a very old cherished instructional book on sidesaddle riding and it strongly discourages riding stallions sidesaddle…"

"I would just like to say - You Rock - I've been running a discussion on Barnmice to voice my own disgust at the fact that Fashion now wins top dressage competition and not true skill and hard work. I started this discussion a couple of weeks…"
I am a hobby rider, who is very lucky to have a next door Horse owner with two horses which have to be ridden out together. At a very young age I was taught to ride at "Fulmer, School of Equitation" in Ledston, West Yorkshire. So I have a limited amount of classical training. Having to sell my horse broke my heart and I have only returned to the fold in the last 3 years with my move up North after a 10 year gap.
