ive been thinking about my little mare and how she doesn't just measure up to the big moving horses. i thought about how riders with big moving paces can just think about their test, flexion, regularity etc. whereas i have to also think about influencing her movement, and trying to get the medium paces also. that makes it much harder.

Comment by Jess M on December 5, 2012 at 2:53am Thanks so much for that Jess! She is a real sweetie. I also have her brother, who is further behind in his training. He's 5 next week. But.... I have just found out that I can leave him 3 weeks and just get on and ride, with no silliness. So that was really cool! His 'big' issue is that he's a real licker! Licks me constantly- more after I ride. He has salt etc, so I don't think that's it. I was thinking maybe he likes my soap? So my hard part is trying to convince my husband I don't need to sell either! I bred him for my daughter, who moved away, and I do feel he's the better moving horse (not that I ever tell Delphi that!). Thanks again.
Comment by Jess M on December 5, 2012 at 2:29am Thats so cool that you bred her, I bet your proud of the little mare! I see heaps of the top hacks at Nationals and the Royals etc but I still see beauty in horses like yours, kind and honest! Love Her!!
Don't know if I wish to sell her though. I bred her and have done everything with her- starting, showing etc. She is improving. Some are slower to develop the strength over their back I believe. Thanks for your ideas Jess
Comment by Jess M on December 5, 2012 at 2:21am Thats true, but a horse that is safe and goes along with an even pace and without fuss is priceless as a childs hack. Or even with adults. Unless you want to go further.
you are so right kim! we go out and do lots of other things, and she never questions my decision- ever. thanks for the confirmation. i agree, they are just super when they try at everything!
