Comment by Elizabeth Innes on December 5, 2011 at 9:43pm Horse slaughter is simply not acceptable in a civilized country. The US did not slaughter horses since 2006 because of a technicality - they would not pay for inspectors of horse slaughter facilities. Unfortunately they have reinstated this funding. The NDP in Canada have a private members bill to stop horse slaughter in Canada - Bill C322. Please call you MP and tell them to support this bill and check out the Canadian Horse Defence Coalitions web site to learn more.
another problem with slaughter even in America - is that it isn't regulated as such - when there were slaughter house here before, horses still faced many of the same atrocities they face going to Canada or Mexico - overloaded trailers, long transport, injuries, hunger, thirst even before arriving at the slaughterhouse - then the methods used are not meant for horses - captive bolt DOESN'T always kill immediately with the first hit - also consider all the Bute, dewormer and other "stuff" - been proven to cause cancer, health problems
that's a horibble thing to slaughter such beautiful animals
